2:51 — Carolina Panthers drive starts on own 46
Two runs to drain the clock and a pass that should have been a first down. Wow. The Lions jumped, giving the Panthers fourth-and-inches. They jumped again. This is a new low. This is it, Lions fans.
4:57 — Detroit Lions drive starts on own 25
Stafford to Kerryon Johnson, who makes some nice move on his way to a 14-yard gain. Another first down, this one to Marvin Jones. The Lions are moving and getting up to the line in a hurry. Stafford is a sacked for the fifth time, Panthers still bringing pressure from all the angles. It’s fourth-and-14 — incomplete.
6:17 — Carolina Panthers drive starts on Detroit’s 22
Third-and-long after some nice run defense, Panthers running some clock down in field-goal range. Mike Davis is just short of the marker, flags are down — holding on the offense makes it third-and-16. Detroit has used two timeouts here, Panthers will look to make it 20-0. Okudah is down after the play there, in on the tackle, looks like he took a shot to the shoulder. No good on the kick, but more flags. Running into the kicker, second try is good. That’s a nightmare, wow. Panthers 20, Lions 0
9:10 — Detroit Lions drive starts on own 20
Third-and-10 — Stafford hits Jones well short of the markers. Fourth-and-2 — nice catch by Jones there, took a shot by Shaq Thompson. Brian Burns sprints past a miscommunication, sack makes it second-and-17. Another sack, fourth one of the game here. Third-and-20, short look hits the dirt. Fourth-and-20 — no chance.
14:08 — Carolina Panthers drive starts on own 41
Panthers aren’t wasting any time, Walker hits Anderson for a nice 11-yard catch and first down. D.J. Moore nearly took one to the house on the end-around, 21 yards down the field. Panthers knocking already, looking to put this one well out of reach with the shutout in view.
Panthers with a second-and-goal from the 10-yard line after Mike Davis gets some yards back following the penalty. Nice moves, Lions had him behind the line. Another interception in the end zone, this one by Desmond Trufant.
Lions open the quarter second-and-10 at Carolina’s 25-yard line — incomplete for Agnew, who took a shot on a catchable ball. Great pressure by Brian Burns, and Matt Prater misses the kick from 51 yards. Wow.
1:59 — Detroit Lions drive starts on own 25
Illegal hands to the face on Derrick Brown moves the chains out of the gates. Another touch for Jamal Agnew, nice diving catch, makes it third-and-short. Nice look for Hockenson out of the jumbo set, 35 yards down the field.
7:32 — Carolina Panthers drive starts on own 25
It’s third-and-2 after a nice look from Walker to Moore, Panthers are four for nine on third downs today. Walker gets out and hits Moore for the first, easy business. Walker and Moore are making this look easy, seventh catch for the receiver moves the chains once again.
Third-and-13 — Walker to Samuel is short, there’s Tracy Walker with a nice stop. See what Matt Rhule does here — looks like it’ll be a long field-goal attempt for Joey Slye — good from 56. Panthers 17, Lions 0
10:58 — Detroit Lions drive starts on own 25
Two looks for Jamal Agnew out of the backfield here makes it third-and-5. Big third-down catch for T.J. Hockenson to keep the drive alive, Stafford hit the tight end for 19 yards. Needed that one. Touchdown wiped off the board. Stafford gave it to Kerryon Johnson who tossed it back to the quarterback, Stafford then launched one for Marvin Jones but an illegal formation keeps it 14-0. Heck of a fun look and catch by Jones, but that’s another tough break here, would’ve been a 51-yard touchdown.
Stafford is sacked on third down, what a turn of events there. The nightmare continues.
14:07 — Carolina Panthers drive starts on own 33
Walker hits Robby Anderson over the middle for 18 yards, not much has changed on both sides of the ball here. That one dropped over the hands of Romeo Okwara. Another great look here from Walker, hits Moore for 20 yards on a rocket out of the pocket. Third-and-3 at Detroit’s 17-yard line — another beauty from Walker, Curtis Samuel with a great route on the touchdown. Desmond Trufant looked lost, didn’t know where his safety was, Samuel got to the open spot. Panthers 14, Lions 0
15:00 — Detroit Lions drive starts on own 25
Stafford starts the half with a quick look to Marvin Hall and not a run to Adrian Peterson. Oday Aboushi has replaced Big V at right guard. It’s third-and-5 after a tipped pass — bad look for Jones. Three-and-out, yikes.
HALFTIME — Carolina Panthers 7, Detroit Lions 0
Halftime analysis: The Lions are getting shut out by the awful Panthers. Woof.
:05 — Detroit Lions drive starts on own 34
1:53 — Carolina Panthers drive starts on own 12
Panthers not showing a ton of urgency here, second-and-7, refs are looking at something — 10-second runoff after a false-start penalty. Mike Davis with the catch, and picks up enough to move the chains by a hair. Walker hurries to the line, can’t hit Anderson.
Uh-oh, Walker gets one out to Curtis Samuel, 15 yards and stops the clock out of bounds. Carolina at its own 38, 34 seconds — incomplete. Jayron Kearse probably should’ve had that one, big miscommunication on the throw. Walker avoids the sack and takes off for 12 yards, penalty brings it back. Illegal hands to the face.
Second-and-20 — Walker looks deep, no chance. Walker hits Anderson short of the markers, Lions use their first timeout.
4:16 — Detroit Lions drive starts on own 35
Stafford and Hockenson connected on one to move the chains, but it’s going to be Jack Fox for another punt after Kerryon Johnson runs on second and third down.
6:59 — Carolina Panthers drive starts on own 10
Walker hits Anderson for 6 yards on the first-down pass, setting up Mike Davis for the 5-yard run to move those chains. John Penisini chases Walker out of bounds, credited with a sack on that one. Third-and-7 — Walker way over the head of Curtis Samuel.
9:42 — Detroit Lions drive starts on own 34
Play-action, Stafford scrambles for about 8 yards. Nothing open out there, pocket held. Another fake to Peterson, Stafford gets it out to Cephus for the first. Nice little look there, Cephus with the possession grab. It’s still the Adrian Peterson show out of the backfield, not much Kerryon Johnson, no Jonathan Williams yet.
Hockenson took a shot on third down, could have had the first, couldn’t haul it in.
11:10 — Carolina Panthers drive starts on own 10
Ball pops out, Rodney Smith lost it but it looks like the Panthers recovered. They did, second-and-long deep insider their own territory, though. Three-and-out, some really sloppy offense there. Ball was on the deck nearly the whole time it felt like.
13:43 — Detroit Lions drive starts on own 20
Matthew Stafford finds Marvin Jones, who bounces off a couple defenders for 21 yards on the play. Brian Burns nearly caught Stafford with a Pick-6 on third down, here comes Jack Fox to punt.
— Panthers open the quarter first-and-goal at the 9-yard line — Mike Davis takes it to the 5-yard line, another nice stop for Jarrad Davis. Third-and-goal after a short look for Curtis Samuel.
Big-time interception by Amani Oruwariye in the end zone. Wow, the Lions needed that one there. Offense gets a chance to get something, anything clicking.
:56 — Carolina Panthers drive starts on Detroit’s 22
Mike Davis making magic, picks up 9 yards and the Panthers are knocking already.
2:21 — Detroit Lions drive starts on own 25
More Adrian Peterson on first down makes it second-and-8. More Peterson makes it third-and-5 — low snap, bad thumb for the quarterback and the Panthers fall on it.
8:24 — Carolina Panthers drive starts on own 5
John Penisini stuffs Mike Davis at the line, nice look for the rookie. It’s third-and-short after Mike Davis catches one and runs around for a minute. Walker sprints under center, Davis moves those chains with ease. Detroit’s run defense is getting after it, nice stop by Romeo Okwara to run up and make a stop at the line. Disengaged from his block at the right moment.
Walker fires one for D.J. Moore, moves the chains with the 14-yard pass. The quarterback goes right back to Moore, 52 yards down the sideline. Moore beat Okudah by a couple of steps, rough look out of the gates. Panthers down to the 1-yard line, Walker almost punched one in on the designed run. Third-and-goal — Mike Davis punches it in. Panthers 7, Lions 0
10:28 — Detroit Lions drive starts on own 20
Adrian Peterson starting in the backfield, Marvin Jones and Marvin Hall at wide receiver. Peterson picks up 4 yards to open things on offense. More Peterson, third-and-4 — Peterson hits Kerryon Johnson for the first down.
Third-and-10 after two incompletions. Quintez Cephus failed to seal the defender, and Peterson dropped an easy one. Hockenson looked to get tripped, wanted a flag there. There is a flag down, but it’s holding on the offense. Fourth down, here comes Jack Fox.
15:00 — Carolina Panthers drive starts on own 25
P.J. Walker gets one out for Robby Anderson quick, picks up 9 yards on the play. Mike Davis plows ahead for the first down. Lions rolled with Christian Jones and Jahlani Tavai on the edge, with Trey Flowers, Julian Okwara, Da’Shawn Hand and Austin Bryant out.
Detroit’s run defense holds up, forcing Walker and the offense into a third-and-5. Five wide, empty gun look — Walker looks and hits Curtis Samuel for the first down. Really great play call there, Samuel ran it perfect and Walker dropped it in. A third-and-9 look after Carolina is caught with 12 players in the huddle — Walker’s pass is knocked down at the line by Nick Williams.
Some P.J. Walker XFL highlights while we wait:
Bridgewater is OUT.
The Detroit Lions head into their Week 11 road test against the Carolina Panthers down several starters, not to mention a banged-up starting quarterback. Matthew Stafford is expected to start despite a partially torn ligament in his throwing hand.
It sounds like it’s coming down to kickoff on the other side of things. The NFL Network reports Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater needs to show enough in a pregame workout to get the keys today. Bridgewater suffered a sprained MCL in his knee last week and has been limited at best in practice. If he’s unable to go, Carolina will turn to XFL 2.0 standout P.J. Walker or Will Grier, a third-round pick in last year’s draft under the previous regime.

Detroit (4-5) held on to win last week, beating Washington 30-27 on a last-second field goal. Matt Prater nailed one from 59 yards out, avoiding a 21-point second-half meltdown to one of the least threatening offenses in the league. The Lions will be without receivers Kenny Golladay and Danny Amendola, running back D’Andre Swift, defensive end Trey Flowers, and defensive linemen Austin Bryant and Da’Shawn Hand, among others in Carolina today.
The Panthers were blown out 46-23 at the hand of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. Carolina will be without star running back Christian McCaffrey again while taking the quarterback situation down to the last possible moment. First-year coach Matt Rhule has got it clicking on offense despite McCaffrey missing most of the year, with receivers Curtis Samuel, Robby Anderson and D.J. Moore doing a little bit of everything. It’s been a different story on the ball’s defensive side, but that should surprise nobody after Carolina used all seven of its draft picks on defenders back in April. Brian Burns leads the charge for this group off the edge. Prized rookie Derrick Brown continues to find his footing against the run while positively impacting the pass rush.
