Best gaming accessories deals on Cyber Monday: Xbox controllers, gaming mice and more

This story is part of Holiday Gift Guide 2020, CNET’s gift picks with expert advice, reviews and recommendations for the latest tech gifts for you and your family.

The holiday season can be a great time to pick up some sweet, sweet discounts on some great gaming gear. Black Friday has passed, but with everyone gearing up for Cyber Monday, there are fantastic deals available on controllers, mechanical keyboards, mice, headsets, monitors and more.

You won’t find reduced prices on this year’s hottest products like the Xbox Series X, Series S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite or their newest accessories, or on the latest RTX 30-series Nvidia GPUs and AMD Radeon RX 6000-series GPUs — if you can even find any of them in stock. Nor are there any reasonable deals, as far as I can tell, on any graphics cards. Even the old models seem overpriced for what they offer.

Read more: Black Friday 2020 Switch game deals: Walmart is dropping Mario, Zelda and more to $30 starting Wednesday

All that said, it was hard to winnow things down — there are a ton of good prices, notably from Logitech, Razer and HyperX — so be on the lookout for those. All of these are available now, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for more as the discount season progresses.

Josh Goldman/CNET

Featured on our list of best Nintendo Switch controllers, the PowerA Enhanced Wireless is the closest you’ll find to Nintendo’s own Pro. It’s normally sold for around $40-$50, so even if you’re technically not saving $30, it’s still another $10 off. How low the price is depends on which model you buy, from Pokemon to Overwatch.

Microsoft

Gaming controllers don’t last forever and eventually you’ll need a replacement. This deal slices $20 off the regular price so you can stock up. It’s not the new controller that comes with the Xbox Series X and S, but it’s still one of the best.

Logitech

Ask any gamer who makes the best wireless accessories and Logitech’s Lightspeed line is usually at the top of the list for keyboards and mice. A bunch of its gaming gear is on sale right now, but the G502 is one of the most highly recommended in its class, so it’s a good time to snap one up.

Josh Goldman/CNET

The Kain 120 Aimo is one of our picks for best budget gaming mice, and that’s at $70. For its seemingly perpetual discount down to $30, it’s a no-brainer buy if you’re on a budget.

LG

This monitor from 2017 is no spring chicken, but for its sub-$400 discounted price you get quite a bit: quad-HD resolution (2,560×1,440) and 144Hz refresh with AMD FreeSync support.

Logitech

Lauded by the car aficionados at our sister site Roadshow as one of the best racing wheels they’ve tried, the Xbox One-compatible G920 and PS4-compatible G29 have earned some attractive Black Friday savings.

Cyber Monday Estimates Lowered, Signaling Early Shopping

(Bloomberg) — Online shoppers in the U.S. will spend up to $11.4 billion on Cyber Monday, according to a revised estimate from Adobe Inc., indicating consumers responded to deals from retailers that enticed them to begin shopping before the annual event.

The Postal Service in recent weeks has sought bids from consulting firms to reassess what the agency charges companies such as Amazon, UPS and FedEx to deliver products on their behalf between a post office and a customer’s home, the Washington Post reported last week.

Adobe revised its Cyber Monday spending estimate downward from an earlier projection of a record-busting $12.7 billion, after retailers this year started to entice people to shop earlier in the season to avoid capacity problems. Despite the revision, Cyber Monday is on track to set another record for online spending in a single day, topping the $9 billion spent on Black Friday and up as much as 21% from a year ago, since pandemic-spooked consumers are shifting more of their purchases from stores to websites.

“While COVID-19, the elections and uncertainty around stimulus packages impacted consumer shopping behaviors and made this an unprecedented year in e-commerce, we expect to see continued, record-breaking e-commerce sales from now until Christmas,” Taylor Schreiner, director of Adobe Digital Insights, said in an emailed statement.

The big spending shift presents a valuable opportunity for retailers whose websites, customer service departments and delivery operations can withstand the period of crushing traffic. Amazon.com Inc., Walmart Inc., Target Corp., Best Buy Co. and others have been preparing for the 2020 holiday deluge for months. This week will be the ultimate test for their new investments in ramping up delivery capacity and adding features like parking lot pickup for digital orders.

Nearly 30% of Cyber Monday spending will happen between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Pacific time, when bargain-hunting shoppers finally pull the trigger, according to Adobe.

All that spending in a compressed time means that any service interruptions on Cyber Monday — slow websites, payment processing problems, shopping carts that vanish before checkout — could be painful for companies.

“Even large retailers could be crippled with the demand,” said Mario Ciabarra, chief executive officer at Quantum Metric, which helps online retailers fix website problems. “Every minute counts and every customer counts.”

There were already signs that some web stores are struggling to handle the load. Sites for prominent retailers had 39% more errors on Black Friday than they did a year ago, according to Quantum Metric.

Black Friday spending of $9 billion also missed Adobe’s forecast of $10.3 billion, another sign of cautious consumer spending during the pandemic and shoppers reacting to deals earlier in the holiday season. But Cyber Monday will likely still be the peak, because many shoppers are conditioned to hold off on big purchases in anticipation of price cuts.

35 Cyber Monday Fitness Deals You’ll Regret Not Shopping Before Midnight

New Year’s Day is unofficially the biggest shopping holiday of the year for fitness gear as people lean into their annual resolutions. But real deal seekers know that Cyber Monday is actually the best opportunity to score items like exercise equipment, activewear, fitness trackers, and sneakers at a steep discount.

Cyber Monday sales from retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Nordstrom on brands like Lululemon, Adidas, and Mirror make it possible to outfit not only your home gym but your workout wardrobe — and all the other essentials needed to tackle your health and fitness goals.

Some of the best Cyber Monday fitness deals we’ve spotted so far include $50 off Amazon’s best-selling treadmill, $45 off an adjustable dumbbell set, and $60 off a stationary bike. Of course, nothing will go better with a fresh home gym setup than a new pair of leggings (like this Lululemon pair that’s 50 percent off) and a fitness tracker to maximize your workout (like this Suunto watch that’s 42 percent off).

And while many popular fitness items — like treadmills, stationary bikes, and dumbbells — tend to sell out around early January, they’re fully in-stock ahead of the holidays. Better yet, they actually make spectacular gifts for loved ones trying to make the most of their time spent social distancing this winter.

Cyber Monday set to be biggest online shopping day in U.S. history

(Reuters) – Cyber Monday was set to garner up to $12.7 billion in online sales, according to industry estimates, surpassing Black Friday’s digital numbers as U.S. retailers enter the last lap of an extended holiday selling season.

Retailers have given shoppers nearly two months of offers since Amazon.com held its Prime Day in October, as they sought to be competitive and recoup the sales lost in this year’s coronavirus-driven closures of malls and other stores.

Latest estimates from Adobe Analytics showed this year’s conclusion to Thanksgiving weekend promotions would, however, still be the largest online sales day in history, with spending between $10.8 billion and $12.7 billion.

“While I anticipate another year of discount chicken — where consumers hold out for deeper and deeper discounts throughout the season … Cyber Monday should (still) offer a great opportunity to make a big dent in holiday shopping,” said Rob Garf, VP of strategy and insights at Salesforce.

Traditionally, Cyber Monday starts with people, fresh after a long weekend, scouring for discounts online at work and driving another big day of promotions.

However, the popularity of event shopping days has faded with the emergence of online shopping and cheap deals throughout the year from retailers including Amazon and Walmart Inc, with the health crisis this year also playing with shopping patterns.

“I did a lot of my shopping even before Black Friday… I feel I’ve gotten mostly everything,” said Caroline McCormick, 33.

The Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, sales engineer said she’s been receiving “early access” Black Friday emails for several weeks now, prompting her to buy hiking boots on Columbia Sportswear’s website for her mother, socks on Kohl’s Corp’s website and more.

Today, when she was pitched more deals for Cyber Monday, “nothing popped out that made me think ‘I need to get that right now.’”

The tentpole shopping event of Black Friday, which pulled in record online sales of about $9 billion, according to Adobe, saw shoppers turning up in smaller numbers at stores as they utilized the early deals and avoided stepping out into large crowds.

This year’s Cyber Monday saw not just online sellers such as Amazon offer steep discounts for its own brands, including Fire TV stick, Echo devices, and other electronics like PlayStations and roombas, but also brick-and-mortar stores such as Lululemon Athletica and Best Buy provide online deals.

“I go online a little bit and look around and do some comparison shopping, but Amazon pretty much beats everything,” said Bill Hon, 49, a cook living in Crawfordsville, Indiana, who started his holiday shopping during Amazon’s Prime Day event.

Apple also held a four-day event on its website ending on Monday, offering gift cards of up to $150 on purchase of certain products.

Online Shopping, Virus in Winter, Stock Market: Your Monday Evening Briefing

(Want to get this newsletter in your inbox? Here’s the sign-up.)

Good evening. Here’s the latest.

1. The holiday shopping season started with a bang. But only online.

Consumers spent $9 billion on the web on Friday, a 21.6 percent increase over Black Friday in 2019. The surge in online sales is expected to be outdone today during Cyber Monday, a promotional event that internet retailers concocted in 2005.

Physical stores, however, appear to have had more of a “bleak Friday.” A large portion of consumer spending had moved online long before the pandemic, but the global health crisis is accelerating that trend.

The holiday shopping season comes at a critical moment for the U.S. economy, which is struggling again as the number of coronavirus cases is soaring amid colder weather.

3. Republicans kept up their challenges to the election.

On Dec. 8, the nation’s voting results will be considered final.

Still, in the past week, Republicans have made last-ditch efforts to halt or reverse the certification process in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin (which approved its results today, as did Arizona). Above, Joe Biden campaigning in Wisconsin in September.

There are also two federal lawsuits pending in Michigan and Georgia courts. And Republicans have at least one path to the nation’s highest court: After the Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday rejected their attempts to stop or reverse the certification of Pennsylvania’s results, President Trump’s lawyers vowed to ask the Supreme Court to reconsider the case.

4. U.S. markets ended November with large gains.

Even with a small decline today, the S&P 500 jumped by 10.8 percent in November, its best monthly showing since April and the fourth-best month for the index in 30 years. The Dow Jones industrial average posted its biggest monthly gain since 1987.

Bitcoin, too, achieved a record. The price of the cryptocurrency hit $19,850.11, nearly three years after its last high. Bitcoin has soared since March, after sinking below $4,000 at the outset of the coronavirus pandemic.

But in one of the biggest retail collapses in Britain since the start of the pandemic, Arcadia Group, the company that includes the Topshop clothing chain, has gone into administration, a form of bankruptcy.

A ruling for the Trump administration would upend the agreement that the Census Bureau must count all residents, whatever their immigration status, which has governed the count for more than two centuries.

The decision could shift political power from Democratic states and districts to areas that are older, whiter and typically more Republican.

6. An army of angry farmers is encircling New Delhi.
