Temple St Clair Donates 20% Of Jewelry Sales To Big Life Foundation

Temple St Clair is one of America’s most creative jewelry designers. She’s known for her spectacular craftsmanship, innovative designs, and keen observations of the natural world, which she translates into jewelry. Animal-inspired jewelry has been a long-running theme through her collections, most notably in her high-jewelry collections. Her work also draws attention to the urgent plight of our wildlife, whose habitats are disappearing and who are at risk of extinction due to poaching. This November, she is donating 20% of all e-commerce sales to Big Life Foundation in Africa. The non-profit organization is dedicated to protecting over 1.6 million acres of wilderness in East Africa by employing hundreds of local Maasai rangers in its anti-poaching programs, among other conservation initiatives.

St Clair says, “I am a true lover of nature and wildlife, and have been my entire life. I’ve been fortunate to have worked with several amazing conservation organizations throughout my life, and have most recently joined Big Life Foundation as a board advisor. I draw so much inspiration for my jewelry from animals and the world around me, and it’s important to me to continue giving back whenever I can.”

Her high-jewelry collection, Big Game, features intricately carved rings set with precious gems. Artisans in Florence, Italy, hand-carve each one, using artisanal techniques to create lifelike details in each creature. The elephant has deep wrinkles that form an expressive face, and the fur on the jaguar is lifelike. This level of detail can only be achieved by the finest craftspeople. Each piece is set with the highest-quality gemstones, and sometimes the gemstones aren’t just for decoration. The Rhinoceros ring uses a 33.50-carat aquamarine as the body of the magnificent animal with emeralds, blue sapphires, and diamonds as accents.

Her work and her animal jewelry have been immortalized in a gorgeous book from Assouline, The Golden Menagerie, which showcases her creative process, craftsmanship, and brilliant jewelry. St Clair begins each piece with a watercolor painting that she does herself, which her Florentine artisans translate into incredible wearable works of art.
